Review - Cycling Caps

Let's not beat around the bush, I have a TINY head, it's shocking, even children's baseball caps are too big for me. There is only one brand that fits me ok but they just don't stay on when cycling, as soon as I lift my head up they are off.

I bought myself a Campy cycling cap a while back thinking it wouldn't fit but they are so bloody cheap that it didn't really matter. It fitted ok and was soooooo good for riding, it did the lot, it stopped my stupid floppy hair from flapping about, it kept my head warm, it kept the rain and the sun out of my eyes, basically it did exactly what it was designed to do. People seem to think that they are hysterical looking and its true, a bit. How they look really doesn't matter though when they work so perfectly!

Campagnolo

I lost the Campagnolo one a couple of weeks ago and have been really missing it, today I bought myself an Assos one from Cyclopedia in Cardiff. This one is even better, its a bit smaller so fits me better and even has a mesh panel in the back for ventilation which actually seemed to work today on the uphill ride home.

Wikipedia tells me that "a traditional way to keep the head cool when cycling in hot conditions was to put a cabbage leaf under the casquette" so if you see me around and I look a bit like treebeard on a bike don't be alarmed, I'm just keeping it real, yo.

These hats cost anything from £6 to about £10 with more "classy" ones costing much more. Try and get them from your LBS but if you can't try prendas.co.uk or eBay. This is the best one ever:

Again?

We hit the two-fer as planned. My quads were feeling it just walking around at work and yesterday before we got home. I should've called it and sat with my feet up and gotten dinner ready so I could get more than 7.5 hours of sleep, but I'm all driven, and kinda wanted to ride anyway.

I should've called it early in the ride and gone back to the truck cause my legs didn't feel good and I wasn't really into it. It wasn't bad, and I wasn't begging for mercy; just didn't feel really good. HR was either too low for the effort or too high - never spot on like it had been on the lunch ride.

I ate an Aussie bite at home before we left, and took a shot of gel in the truck. Somehow, yet again, I managed to bonk mid-ride. The kicker is we only did 43 minutes of riding total. So, yeah, I bonked on an easy flat-ish ride after like 25 minutes of riding.

Have no fear; I brought a Snickers as an extra snack today. My goal for the next week? Gain 3lbs and see if I can stop bonking, while not eating too unhealthy. FWIW, I probably won't eat the Snickers. I also brought an EAS carb bar and a Luna Bar. I'm only going to eat one if I'm actually hungry.

Sorry for the blur, but I liked the jersey shot better

Soo green

So, we're headed back to the truck, and after some fun twisty descending I'm feeling okay. I go to attack a super short rocky little ascent and I managed to half endo and slam my knee into a big rock. Ouch. Something's gotta give.

Okay, cycling cap issue... anyone else have problems with scanning the trail ahead visibility with one on? Am I doing it wrong? It's affecting my descending a bit, and I found it tough to keep my head up on the road bike yesterday. I'm DIGGIN' the extra shade cover on my nose (which despite wearing SPF 50 everyday is getting more and more red from the sun every day), but I don't want it to affect my descending on the bike like it has been. Advice?
